Romeo & juliet
Bright Umbrella Theatre Company is using Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet to open conversations with young people about racism, division and reconciliation.
Bright Umbrella has created a new production of Romeo and Juliet featuring a cast of 5 professional actors and set against the backdrop of a contemporary Belfast neighbourhood in the aftermath of recent
racist violence and disorder.
The play retains Shakespeare’s original text but reimagines the Montagues as a family who have recently arrived in Belfast from Eastern Europe, while the Capulets are an established local family. The Bard’s story of two young people whose love is overwhelmed by inherited hatred is placed in a world of community tension, suspicion of outsiders and rapidly escalating violence.
The project is being funded through Belfast City Council’s Belfast PEACEPLUS Local Community Action Plan.

· Bright Umbrella is a Belfast-based theatre company using professional performance, participation and community engagement to make theatre accessible to a wide range of audiences.
· The project is being delivered as part of Bright Umbrella’s PEACEPLUS-supported Sanctuary Theatre Project and interested schools are being asked to contact the company to discuss the possibility of hosting a performance.

The Macbeth Project
The Macbeth Project in association with FinTrU
A 75-minute retelling of Shakespeare’s classic tale of murder and witchcraft. The play is followed by a lively illustrated presentation by the Director and the actors then retake the stage to be ‘hot-seated’ by questions from the audience which they will answer in character. Suitable for all audiences and particularly for students studying the play at post primary and college levels. The Macbeth Project is presented in association with FinTrU, a multi-award-winning RegTech company, working to protect the integrity of financial services. Thursday 19th to Saturday 21stOctober @ 7.30 p.m. (also Saturday 21st matinee at 1.00). Tickets: £16.00, £14.00 concessions and a limited number of £10 ‘Early Bird’ tickets.
